Today I learned a fun new skill that may or may not be useful for the future: creating txt files through Unity. I wrote a script that creates a file, and then I can add strings of text to that file. The goal is to track play times for tomorrow's playtest session. I tried to get it so the function would automatically run if you tried to quit the game, but was unsuccessful.
For whatever reason, in class we got to the topic of Intro to Game Development. I think Seth brought it up because they're a TA for that class. And that reminded me, I should start going through the classes I've taken and put them into a tier list. I'll probably separate gen eds and game design courses because it's impossible for any of the gen eds to compete with the ones that are actually in my major. I'll be grading the classes on how fun they were and how much I got out of it. Starting with freshman courses...
Games 101 - B+. It was about learning the histories of certain game genres and we even got to play some of them. The homeworks were fun, short essays about a game we played. But since it had awful closed-note exams I have to knock it down to a B+.
Intro to Programming - B. It was a fine class, and I got some fun making some games such as Chaos Pong, but the game engines used were Processing and Gamemaker Studio, and I don't really use those anymore.
Intro to Game Studies - B-. This was the only winter semester course I took and well I don't regret taking it over the winter, but there were a lot of daily readings that I don't really remember anymore. The final exam and essay were ok but not amazing.
Into to Game Development - A-. Docking points for being Gamemaker, but I liked the games I made. I still have fond memories of Sky Attack and Cards of Fortune. Sadly I lost the project files for Sky Attack so I can't go back to it.
Into to Game Design - B+. This class produced Antiquitus which was a cool game. I'm docking points though because 2 of the projects were pretty meh; they may have been better off-Zoom but this was a Zoom class.
