2024 Collection

Minigame collection (December 2024)

4 games made in Unity, one per week.

Game Details

Week 1

A bullet hell game where the enemies will keep shooting at you even when you defeat them.

Week 2

A puzzle game where the game tells you the fewest amount of moves necessary to beat it.

Week 3

A 2D platformer where you can create additional floors and walls by clicking on the screen.

Week 4

A point and click game where you must use light and sound to fend off enemies, whose difficulty you can customize.

Retrospective

Week 1: Even though I like this game and could see myself expanding on it in the future, part of me feels I played it too safe with what was supposed to be a month of experimental minigames.

Week 2: What I learned from this game is that I don't really like making puzzle games where you can sit and think and find the best solution. Also I tried to implement a brute forcer to find solutions and while it worked, it's fairly cumbersome.

Week 3: While I'm happy with figuring out how to implement traditional 2D platformer mechanics like wall jumping and knockback effects, I'm not as confident in creating platforms anywhere, it seems very difficult in creating a full game while giving that much unrestricted power to the player.

Week 4: While I enjoy the gameplay loop, part of me still isn't fully satisfied with the camera system. With optimal play you just stick to one camera and only glance at it very briefly each time you open it. Ideally every camera needs to be checked during gameplay, but I didn't figure out a solution in time.
